Best Roll needs access to all your photos. On first launch, choose Allow Access to All Photos.
If you picked Limit Access, or you denied access, the app cannot work. With limited access it sees only the few photos you picked, so it cannot tell that two photos are duplicates of each other. To fix it, open Settings → Best Roll → Photos and choose All Photos.
The first scan reads your whole library, so it takes longer than later scans. Leave the app open while it runs.
Similar Photos — bursts and near-copies of the same moment. Best Roll scores each one for sharpness and composition, puts the best on top, and stars it.
